Step back into 1948 and help bring one of America’s most beloved stories to life. It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play transforms Frank Capra’s classic film into a charming, fast-paced radio broadcast—complete with period microphones, live sound effects, and a small ensemble of actors creating dozens of unforgettable characters.

​Casting Needs

We’re seeking at least 3 men and 2 women to portray a troupe of radio performers who collectively voice the world of Bedford Falls—from idealistic George Bailey to the many friends, neighbors, and angels who shape his journey.

 

Characters

The following list is for seven actors (five men and two women). The names in all caps are those of the radio performers who are performing It’s a Wonderful Life:

 

  • STAGE MANAGER

  • ANNOUNCER

  • FREDDIE FILMORE: Gower, Potter, Billy, Joseph, Peter Bailey Ernie, Old Man Collins Ed, Pete, Man (at Martini’s), Nick, Bridge-keeper, Binky, Cop 

  • JAKE LAURENTS:  George Bailey (and Young George) 

  • SALLY APPLEWHITE:  Mary Hatch (and Young Mary)

  • LANA SHERWOOD:  Violet (and Young Violet), Rose Bailey, Matilda, Ruth, Mrs. Hatch, Mrs. Thompson, Schultz, Zuzu, Janie, Sadie Vance

  • HARRY “JAZZBO” HEYWOOD:  Harry (and Young Hary), Bert, Clarence Oddbody, Sam Wainwright, Martini, Dr. Campbell, Charlie, Man (at run on bank), Horace the Teller, Mr. Welch, Tommy, Sheriff

 

In addition to the cast above, up to three women can sing the two commercial breaks.

 

Foley & Singing Opportunities

This production features live, onstage Foley work, performed by actors and sound technicians who create everything from footsteps to door slams in real time. We also welcome singers interested in performing 1940s-style commercial jingles during the staged broadcast.

 

Rehearsals

Rehearsals begin September 21 Expected schedule: 3–4 times a week, 1.5–2 hours per rehearsal.

 

Performance Dates

Three weekends in November, 8:00 evening performances; 3:00 Sunday Matinees:

November 6–7–8 ,  November 13–14–15 ,  November 20–21–22
