On Stage

Our  Next  Production

By Jaston Williams, Joe Sears & Ed Howard

Directed by Randal Tyler

The Story: What do Arles Struvie, Thurston Wheelis, Aunt Pearl Burras, Petey Fisk, Phineas Blye, Bertha Bumiller, DiDi Snavely and Rev. Spikes have in common? In this hilarious send-up of small town morals and mores, they are all among the upstanding citizens of Tuna, Texas’ third smallest town where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. The long running Off-Broadway hit, which has spawned three sequels and given a command performance at The White House for President George H.W. Bush, usually features a cast of two. This production will be performed by a mixed cast of 6-8, creating the entire population of Tuna in a tour de farce of costume changes and multiple characterizations. Twenty+ wacky characters, good music and a barrel of laughs! Spend a day in Tuna!

Upcoming  Productions

In The Good Old Summertime

By Miklos Laszio & Samson Raphaelson
Music & Lyrics by Fred Spielman and George Evans

Directed by Mark Favazza

The Story:   Despite the title of the production, the setting is Christmas time at the turn of the century in Chicago. The story opens with Andrew and Veronica crashing into one another. This encounter begins an instant and mutual dislike, which quickly intensifies when Andrew is forced to hire Veronica as a saleslady at Oberkugen’s music store. Despite the fact that they are profoundly attracted to each other, they both manage to keep that attraction under wraps as they bicker, quarrel and disagree about everything. What the two don’t know is that while they argue and fight constantly throughout the day at work, they are actually engaged in an innocent, romantic and completely anonymous relationship by night, through the post office, as pen pals. Yes, you may have seen the non-musical version of this plot line in the earlier 1940’s production of, The Shop Around the Corner, or more recently in another popular adaptation entitled, You’ve Got Mail. The nostalgia of turn of the century America is abundant throughout the production. Dress and hairstyles will represent 1890’s America. The plot, action, music and dialogue are all family friendly.

Rebecca Tebbs Nunn will direct the 4th annual Youth Theater Workshop offered by The Lancaster Players. Students will learn Method Acting during the 10 classroom sessions at The Lancaster Playhouse in White Stone.

During the two weeks of fun and preparation, the students will learn about lighting, costuming, set construction, backstage management and special effects in addition to performance skills. The workshop will conclude with two evening performances open to the public. Students will perform scenes from Greek tragedy and comedy, Shakespeare, contemporary theatre, avant-garde theatre, theatre of the absurd, existentialistic theatre, Broadway musicals and modern theatre.

This opportunity for young people to learn and grow their self-confidence is offered for only $20, which includes a “workshop tee shirt.” Scholarships are available from The Lancaster Players for anyone who needs financial assistance. This opportunity is available because of the donation of time and talent by Rebecca Tebbs Nunn, her faculty and The Lancaster Players’ commitment to the development of acting talent within the community.

Kitchen Witches

By Caroline Smith

Directed by Donna Smith

The Story:  Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly's long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly's dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel's, it's a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer!
